Seek Him Early

Genesis 19:27, “And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD:” The phrase and concept of “early in the morning” is written 39 times in the Bible. Many times it is in reference to someone meeting with the Lord or doing some type of service for the Lord. There is something special to me about the early morning hours. The quiet, the aloneness draws me to the Lord. His Word runs fresh through my mind. It is a habit of mine to drink plenty of water first thing each morning. I am reminded of how God quenches a thirst and longing when I read David’s words in Psalm 63:1, “[[A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.]] O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;” What a true picture of life this is. We live in a dry and thirsty land that doesn’t even know its condition nor how to quench it. How busy the days can be! How consuming! Our thoughts are drawn to duties and demands of each day, but how sweet it all can be when we start off early with some time with our Lord and His Word. We gain wisdom and understanding that helps us through each day. We read of this in Proverbs 8:17, “I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.”
