Jeremiah 17:17 "Thou art my hope in the day of evil."

Leading a Christian life isn't always easy. Our path isn't always bright and sunny and we will find ourselves in the valley. We find ourselves confused with thoughts like "Lord, I'm your child, why is this happening to me?"
Our expectations of what it means to be a child of God can sometimes lean on being a bit distorted.  We are not exempt from the realities of living an imperfect life in an imperfect world with all that goes with that.  The difference for us is that we can be assured that our Heavenly Father wants what is best for us.  He sees everything.  He cares.  We have a rock to run to for "who is a rock save our God."  He wants us to learn to depend on Him. To pull away from self-dependence and to have faith and trust in Him.

In Psalm we read about David crying out to God, "Why standest thou afar off O Lord? why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble?" (Ps. 10:1) What a precious example for us to learn from and follow.  Sure, it is ok for us to turn our hearts and mind to our God.  We will express our weakness in faith sometimes, but ultimately we can grow in that same faith as we watch God move in our lives.  This same David says in Psalms 27:14 - Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord."

These times in the desert are when we need reminded that, while are faith may be weak in these moments this is when are faith will be made strong.  "Wait, I say, on the Lord." During the times of feeling all alone and wondering where God is, remember "For the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest."

Thou Art My Hope

Jeremiah 17:17 "Thou art my hope in the day of evil." Leading a Christian life isn't always easy. Our path isn't always ...
Romans 5: 5, ”And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.”
This verse follows a series of verses explaining how we go from tribulation to patience, then on to experience and finally to hope. I love focusing on this concept, but suddenly something else jumped out me. The part of verse 5 that speaks of the love of God being in our hearts. It all became suddenly clear. I shouldn’t be trying to love anyone or anything with my love alone. I have been given the love of God by the Holy Ghost into my heart. That then means we have a perfect love according to I john 4:17, “Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.”
How can I judge the love I have and show whether it is my love or God’s love? God’s love will not be tainted with sin of jealousy, anger, pride, fear, hatefulness, contempt, etc. It will love when others are being unloveable. It will love the things of God and not the things that come in our way of righteousness. It will guide me into service of the Lord. It will draw me nigh unto God. It will be the love that empowers me to love as described in the two greatest commandments to love God with all my heart, soul, and mind, and to love my neighbour as myself.
May I remember each day that my love is not enough. I have a more perfect love already given to me. This love that God has given me is a way for Him to love people and to love the right things through me. Let me be that channel of love.
